The Roads Less Traveled:
A LIFESTYLE OF MEDITATION
Do you find it difficult to quiet your mind? This discipline can be considered one of the most difficult. But, it can also be one of the most rewarding. As expressed in the psalms and the Book of Mark, Christian meditation involves time well spent in God’s Word and fellowshipping with Him through prayer -- and the result is a mind and heart filled with the things of God.
1. Focus on the Word (Psalm 119:11-16)
2. Fellowship Through Prayer (Mark 1:35-39)
3. Fruit of Time Well Spent (Psalm 1:1-3)
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%20119:11-16,%20Mark%201:35-39,%20Psalm%201:1-3&version=HCSB
Through continual, habitual prayer and meditation, we become more in tune with God, His will, and His plan for our lives.
Remember, God who created everything is still in control of His creation. Keep praying for each other, caring for each other and take care of your families. John

Let's Shower them with Diapers & Wipes!
We've had two recent additions to our class. Steve & Allison Terril welcomed little Jack and Brandon & Maggie Wheeler welcomed little Emmery at the end of 2010 and we want to help them get started on this new journey. On Feb 6 (Super Bowl Sunday) we are having a diaper and wipes shower for them during our LIFE group hour. Both have requested Pampers diapers. As a recent diaper shower recipient, I would recommend that we go easy on the size 1's. Let's try to shower them with sizes 2-4 and maybe even some Pull-ups for later on. Everything helps!

Super Bowl Party
Better late than never! Here's the details for the Super Bowl Party:
Derek and Courtney have graciously opened their home for us and we will begin gathering at 5:00. You might bring a chair to sit on unless you don't mind sitting on the floor. Of course the kids are invited! As of today, there's the list of who is bringing what:
Elmores - paper goods
Dolans - mexican chili, cornbread, no bake cookes
Ingrams - mexican chili, cornbread
Jantzens - guacamole, dessert
Folks - cheese dip, crackers, chocolate chip cookies, pop
Langleys - Deer chili, veggie tray, chips & dip, cheese platter
Grizzles - buffalo dip, chips, little smokies, dessert
Bendures - fruit tray
Remkes - dessert
Everyone is invited and this is a great opportunity to invite friends! If you want to come and you're not on the list, leave a comment here to rsvp. You can also indicate if you will be bringing anything. It looks like we are good on everything, but we can never have too much food! You can also sign up in class on Sunday. I hope to see everyone there!

The Roads Less Traveled:
A LIFESTYLE OF SERVICE
Why do we isolate ourselves from pain and poverty? Why do we elevate comfort and wealth above serving people in need? Jesus makes it clear that we don’t have the option to leave the tough, uncomfortable, and risky jobs to someone else. If we’re going to call ourselves followers of Jesus, we’re going to need to look like Him — and He spent His days on earth with the diseased, despised, and rejected people of His society.

Mark 10:42-45
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Mark%2010:42-45&version=NIV
1. Set your standards and values by God’s Word, not the world’s (Mark 10:42-45).
2. Seize Your Opportunities (Matthew 25:19-21, 29).
3. Serve the Least of These (Matthew 25:34-40).
If we’re seeking true greatness, we’ll only find it through embracing a lifestyle of service.
Remember, God who created everything is still in control of His creation. Keep praying for each other, caring for each other and take care of your families. John

Prayer requests for the week of Jan 9th
Okay, here are this week's requests. As always, I'm so thankful we have a group of people that are faithful to lift up each other's needs to our Father who always meets our needs.
Derek Langley's dad, Joe, had a CT scan yesterday because a chest x-ray revealed something suspicious on his lungs. Pray that it is nothing serious.
Tim and Tiffany Zachary's son, Kolby, will be having outpatient eye surgery on Thursday. Pray for no complications and comfort for little Kolby and his parents.
Cindy Ingram was home on Sunday as Logan was sick. Pray he will feel better soon and no one else gets sick. Also pray for Cindy as she finishes up some college courses and tries to continue to manage her family and home responsibilites.
Stacy Tomberlin was due to have a minor surgery on Thursday but the issue corrected itself so no surgery will be necessary. Praise the Lord!
Janna Bendure's dad is having some problems with vertigo. Pray for successful treatment to ease his dizziness. Also praise that their 3 year old son, Aaron, is responding to their new discipline routine.
Allison Terrill started back to work this week which means baby Jack started full time day care. Pray for Allison as she adjusts to leaving him and that he'll be protected from illness.

THE ROADS LESS TRAVELLED
Following our study from last week, "Community," and as you start out the new year, I encourage you to continue to build community. One place to start is within your Care Group. Make a point to call those in your group and get together outside of Sunday morning. Remember, God's plan for believers is that they grow in their faith through interactions and involvement with other believers. Ephesians 4:1-32
This week our study is "A Lifestyle of Humility."
Read: Luke 14:1-11, John 13:1-17 and Philippians 2:1-11
What is humility? Is it feeble, delicate, passive and weak? Or is it bridled power?
When was the last time you encountered real, Christlike humility?
What stuck out to you about the encounter?
How eager is the typical Christian to be humble?
What are some examples in our culture of attitudes we mistake for humility?
Jesus challenged us to follow selfless humility as the road less traveled. Through committing to a lifestyle of Christlike humility, we'll find ourselves looking more and more like Jesus.
Remember, God who created everything is still in control of His creation. Keep praying for each other, caring for each other and take care of your families. John
